CT scans – special detailed X-rays of the abdomen and pelvis. Show images regular X-rays don’t see.

MRI – scanners use strong magnetic fields, radio waves, and field gradients to generate images of the organs in the body.

Barium X-rays – finds problems in the small intestine. Before the test is done, barium powder is mixed with water, a few minutes before the x-ray. Barium coats the inside of the esophagus, stomach, large and small intestine. Barium is an X-ray absorber and appears white on the x-ray.

Blood Test – is done to check for anemia or blood loss, which is common in chron’s disease.

It’s good you included natural treatments. I know many people would want to try those.

    • Thank you Dianne for the comment, this is a terrible disease. I’ve seen people who have had it and they really suffer. So it’s our best to try and catch the early symptoms with regular checkups.

  5. I have a friend whose 11 year old son has Crohns and they have had a lot of trouble controling it. Schools are not “educated” in how to treat children with a chronic condition so that does not help. The dietary restrictions are much harder with a child whose friends are eating all the things he cant. Happily now CBD oil from hemp is legal in all 50 states and she says its the single biggest thing that has helped her son. I didnt know that CBD could be used for Crohns until she told me about it. Apparently a lot of new research is coming out in this area.

    • Thanks for the comment Doug, Many things keep changing in the medical field some they will tell us about and some they won’t. We just have to wait and see what they come up with. Hopefully they will come up with a cure for most diseases, but I’m doubting we are going to know about it.

  6. Hi Fred, this is a difficult topic to think about. It is unfortunate to think that this can hit anyone. Another good reason to maintain your health for sure. I really like cayenne pepper and garlic – I had no idea that cayenne pepper is actually good for you to this degree, in another recent article I read that it helps to clear up the lungs as well. Thanks for sharing this information.

    • Thanks for the comment. I know that some of these spices that are good for us can be sometimes hard to eat. Using small sprinkles in our meals can give a better flavor. A few sprinkles in chili would be a great way to put it in our diet without too much worry. You can add it different ways be adventurous with it.

  7. Hello Fred, great article. So appreciative of your thoroughness. Was so happy to see the listings of all the herbs that are so helpful. And even with people that have IBS i am sure these same herbs would be helpful.
YOu handled this topic with so much assurance of how it can be managed even thought living with it, is indeed so difficult.

  8. Crohn’s disease is very serious. Daughter of my friend had Crohn’s disease, therapies and medications did not help. She was 18 years old, went to college and had a lot of stress. She went to surgery and today she lives a normal life. I think the doctors are discovered that illness in the early phase. After that, she has given birth a baby boy.
So this is a nice story that gives hope for healing.
Thank you for sharing this valuable information.

    • Thank you, Maja for the comment. I’m glad that your friend is doing better. My family member had this and it would cause him so much pain. Come to find out he was misdiagnosed and he had cancer it finally took his life. We all need to keep regular appointments with the doctor but we never know if their diagnosis is right.

  9. Hi Fred

I didn’t know about this disease but your information have helped me to understand it but can everyone get it?
Thank you again for your great post.

  10. Good info Fred. Is Crohn’s considered an auto-immune disorder? Just curious. It seems a lot of folks are mis-diagnosed. I was diagnosed with colitis at 13 and went through a lot of tests but I don’t really think I had the condition. If I did I must have grown out of it. The symptoms went away after a few months and I’ve never had a problem since. I’m 62 now and thankfully healthy for my age. I’m trying to keep up with health trends. Thanks again for the info.

    • Thank you For the comment, Joel I’m glad you asked Crohn’s Disease is considered an auto-immune disease. Crohn’s is a disease of the immune system and many people get misdiagnosed. All test should be done for this disease to make sure it is what it is and kept monitored on a daily basis.
